Introducing Gifu Women's University

Employment upon Graduation

Gifu Women's University will support students searching for their ideal vocation.

Finding Satisfactory Employment

Finding a job that best suits your personality, your ambitions, and your credentials is the natural next step after graduation. Gifu Women's University helps students find their calling. To attain the most suitable job is crucial to success in a career. In order to find the most appropriate work, they will participate in an easy online careers analysis program that helps them realize what their fortes and weaknesses are. With this, they can then decide what are of work they should be in, and what type of corporation they should apply for in order to gain worthwhile employment.

In this university, subjects such as "Self-Expression" and "Self-Development" are compulsory subjects taught in the first year. From basic, developmental subjects, to specialized subjects appropriate to each professional field, each student has the opportunity to improve in various ways, and to later become a sought-after staff member.

High Rate of Employment

In 2014, the employment rate of job-seekers from Gifu Women's University reached a high 99%, a figure much higher than other, surrounding universities.

Faculty of Home Economics Faculty of Cultural Development
Number of students who graduated 165 85
Number of students seeking employment 156 74
Number of students who found employment 155 72
Number of students who advanced to graduate schools 4 7

Of the students who sought full-time employment after graduation, 99% were able to find jobs. But how can this university provide this prospect of assured employment? There are three reasons:

(1) The Careers Support Centre

The Careers Support Center checks the type of work each student wants to do and where they want to work with what is available. In other words, it matches job availability with job seekers.

At the Careers Support Centre, the staff consult with students and try to find appropriate jobs based on each student's individuality, circumstances and values. "Student Satisfaction" is the top priority and the Centre gives students tips on how to find a job that really fits them.

The Centre also provides lectures by alumni, an intensive, advisory course on how to complete hand-written applications, and individual career consultation. These activities truly give students efficient support.

(2) The Career Support Program

Starting from the very beginning, students prepare for the time when they will play an active role in society.

For the 1st and 2nd year students, the three subjects of "Self-Quest", "Self- Expression", and "Self-Creation" are compulsory, and lead students to think about themselves and the future. The curriculum also stipulates that each department and major hold their own career guidance events, often in the form of special talks from graduates of two or three years previous. In the 3rd and 4th years, students obtain professional knowledge so career seminars focus on how best to benefit from internship experiences or other temporary jobs that can lead to better awareness of society outside the university.

(3)Employment in the Local Community

Gifu Women's University encourages students to find jobs in their own local community. University policy assures students the opportunity of going back to their hometown or community if they so desire.

Fulfilling the wishes of the founder of the university, Gifu Women's University encourages students to use their newly learned skills to play an important role in revitalizing their home towns or local communities. In order to promote this return to own homeland, Centre staff visit many companies in which alumni work or which are located in regions of attending students. Through visiting those companies, the university is able to set up a vast network and collect information concerning the needs of each region.

It is, therefore, not surprising that over 80% of our students settle into jobs in areas in or near where they grew up.
